Tides of Mercy Latest

Posted: June 4, 2011 in BAND NEWS

UK and Bangkok-based Billy The Mountain, the awesome band delivering an eclectic mix of music that defies immediate classification, is close to releasing their latest album – Tides of Mercy – with some 14 tracks now mastered ahead of a planned worldwide release of the new CD. Talks with a major label looking to launch the album outside the original independent label format are still going on, with the band itself divided as to how best to release the album in these different times. Band frontman and songsmith Alex ‘Dr Blues’ Pithie says the majority of the work is done and also exclusively revealed that the band’s label has also arranged for the re-mastering of their classic first album Drifting To Valhalla, in order that it can be simultaneously released packaged with the new Tides of Mercy CD.  The new album Tides of Mercy features artists from around the world with the recording done as far afield as Bangkok, Stockholm, Rome and Copenhagen. In Bangkok, Lester Esteban took care of live drums while one of Italy’s finest drummers Derek J Wilson added all the other drums in his Rome studio. Legendary Swedish guitarist with bRONk and Eric Bibb sideman Staffan Astner guested on the song, the bluesy ‘Here Before’, while elsewhere Thailand’s Manop  Veronitipas delivered soulful alto sax, and back up vocals were  done in Copenhagen and Bangkok. Band anchor Nils Andersson flew in from Sweden to deliver tasty guitar and dobro licks, while the band’s ‘secret weapon’ Rick Stickney flew in from the US for the other guitar parts. Keyboards were shared among Denmark’s Daniel Alexander Muschinsky, album producer Nicolai Kehlet, and Thailand’s Kevin Intraporn. Tasty brass was added in Copenhagen and the entire recording, engineering and arranging challenge was handled and supervised by album producer (and guitarist and bassist) Nicolai Kehlet from his headquarters at Paradise Studios in Bangkok. All songs on both albums were mastered by Torben Lyshol in Denmark.

Band frontman Pithie says the 8pp commissioned Tides of Mercy Artwork and new Drifting To Valhalla artwork for the release of the first album are also looking good, crafted and conceived by UK studio The Front Room.

Billy The Mountain Join Tanglewood

Posted: October 22, 2011 in BAND NEWS

Billy The Mountain band leader Alex Pithie  has joined a growing number of accomplished musicians appointed to endorse Tanglewood acoustic and electric guitars.  Pithie  joins his boyhood guitar hero Peter Green, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and folk balladeer Billy Bragg in the Tanglewood hall of fame, a growing list of international musicians and songwriters who work with and swear by the British-made guitar range.  The Scots-born muso has spent a lifetime writing songs on guitar and more than a few of his blues songs and other tunes have found their way into the hearts of his fans across the world. Today his passion is writing songs for his band Billy The Mountain, and while few of the songs he writes these days on his faithful Tanglewood are strictly blues songs, he still features those bluesy undertones in his lyrics and in some of his most recent tracks.  Read the rest of this entry »

Hot on the heels of our new album Tides of Mercy making it through the mastering stage to full CD production and release, comes the news the band has been commissioned by the producers of the new movie Between Weathers to write an album of songs to ‘illustrate’ and accompany the storyline and perhaps feature a song or two somewhere in the movie.

The movie’s ‘official’ soundtrack is already in the capable hands of Glaswegian Kennedy Aitchison who graduated from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and has been working for over twenty years as a musical director, producer, orchestrator, and arranger in most musical genres. His theatre credits include West End and touring productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats and Saturday Night Fever and he has performed with the RSNO, RPO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Dionne Warwick, Michael Bolton, John Barrowman, Randy Crawford, The Three Degrees, The Supremes, Shirley Bassey and The Drifters. Recently he conducted the orchestra of the Scottish Opera in a live performance of Nanci Griffith’s album, The Dust Bowl Symphony.

Word is that Kennedy is working on the movie theme and score with the gifted Shetland band Bongshang as well as Shetland’s very own fiddle maestro Aly Bain. Read the rest of this entry »

We calling it ‘Tides of Mercy’ which heralds a ‘condition’ about to sweep the world that will wash away the crap, stop the punishing inequalities, re-distribute the wealth and feed the children! How do we know? Because we have met so many cool people in our time who understand the importance of this transition in saving the world…kids too who have been educated well enough to understand there is something very wrong with the George Bush System of Rape, Bleed and Murder! If we only tear down the war machine the Bush family and their like built and own, we’ll be more than halfway there! You know we’re right! Here’s a sneak preview track link

New Single! Wild Water

Posted: April 28, 2009 in BAND NEWS

Switching our strategy as a band, we have released our first new single on www.tunecore.com, www.noisehead.com and Drifting To Valhalla in a series of singles to be launched over the next 12 months we told reporters at the April 25th Nashville press launch of the new single Wild Water. The series of singles will be eventually launched under the umbrella of a working album title Born On Mars. The single debuted on Drifting To Valhalla July 2009.

“The band’s last album Drifting To Valhalla did well across the net especially on Drifting To Valhalla but the single song Mem Will Dance outsold all the other tracks by a margin of five or six times. And when you think about it, fans often fall in love with just one or two songs so we’re working to give the widest cross section of BTM fans at least one song to like well enough and buy. And once we’ve got the best selling singles qualified and compiled, we can compile them on an album of Greatest Hits one day. ”

The feedback on the new song Wild Water from US radio stations, European producer forums, private showcases and industry pundits has been “phenomenal” frontman Zander Ran said.

“It’s a moving anti-war song inspired by the kids who went to ‘fight’ in Iraq for a government bounty and never came back.” The single is available on Drifting To Valhalla and other key retail sites farmed by Tunecore.com.

“Nicolai’s (Kehlet) production and arrangement is once again totally state of the art and his guitar playing and tones surely justify his reputation as one of rock’s best producers working today. And the band just love his studio in Bangkok and the satellite studios like Gann’s Dynamic Studio he uses. The band is blessed to have so many cool people around them and watching out for their final sound and personality,” Ran said.

BTM Again Tops US Indie Chart

Posted: April 28, 2009 in BAND NEWS

Bangkok-based jam blues rock band Billy The Mountain have been told by their Stateside management that they have once again topped one of the most important indie charts in America at www.songplanet.com. Their hit single Mem Will Dance from the April 2008 album Drifting To Valhalla sits at Number One again on the Songplanet Top 100 song chart.

Band management speaking from Nashville where the band has just released its latest single Wild Water, said the band – busy in the studio – were ‘ecstatic’ on the news especially since the album was released more than a year ago and was still making major waves in the US market.

“And sales on Drifting To Valhalla have been phenomenal with Mem Will Dance leading the way in individual downloads there too. And topping any Songplanet chart is a major achievement and great news for the band, especially ahead of the new album Born On Mars which is being released this year as a series of singles first. The first song, Wild Water – an anti-war song dedicated to the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan – leads the charge and we have very high hopes for this collection of brilliant songs too,” they said.
